Two members of our Sixth Form were very privileged to receive an invitation from an organisiation called ‘Lessons from Auschwitz' to visit two concentration camps in Poland.
Celebrating World Book Day
On March 3rd Year 7 pupils took part in a whole day of activities, organised by Miss Carys Jones from the English Department in order to celebrate World Book Day. Pupils enjoyed the opportunity to dress as their favourite character from a book, meet the famous authour Catherine Fisher, design a book cover and other fun activities.
Links with Patagonia
During the last month we have been fortunate to enjoy the company of a young man from Patagonia. Ruy has spent time with pupils teaching them about life in a Welsh speaking community on the other side of the world and has enjoyed assisting in a variety of lessons, from the Science Laboratory to the Rugby field.
On the last Friday before half term, the Sports Hall at the Rhondda Fach Leisure Centre was full of excitement as the three houses at Cymer battled for first place in our annual prestigious School Eisteddfod.

Staff and pupils at Y Cymer were honoured to be invited to take part in Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwyncelyn's annual School Eisteddfod recently, held as part of their St David's Day celebrations.
Cymer Claim First Prize
Following their recent success at the National Final of the Welsh medium Public Speaking competition, where Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda scooped the top prize, the team, consisting of Year 9 pupil Daniel Davies, and Year 12 students Sarah Louise Jones and James John Owen have once again claimed the top spot at the Rhondda round of the English medium competition.
